PE

At Trimley St.Mary primary school, we take pride in giving our children the ability to acquire new knowledge and skills exceptionally well and develop an in-depth understanding of PE.  We encourage our children to have the willingness to practise skills in a wide range of different activities and situations, alone, in small groups and in teams.  In addition, we strive to ensure that our children apply these skills learnt in chosen activities to achieve high levels of performance.

Through our creative curriculum, we explore healthy lifestyles and how they can be achieved by eating sensibly, avoiding smoking, drugs and alcohol and exercising regularly.  We promote the importance of remaining physically active for sustained periods of time to help children understand the long-term benefits of exercise and their well-being.

We develop our children into responsible young leaders in sport and give them the opportunity to improve, motivate and instil excellent sporting attitudes in themselves and their peers.  Furthermore, we endeavour to promote a keen interest in PE and willingness to participate eagerly in every lesson, whilst sustaining highly positive attitudes to make informed choices about engaging fully in extra-curricular sport.

Once children reach upper KS2, they are encouraged to develop their swimming ability and strive to swim at least 25 metres before they reach the end of Year 6.  We also ensure that we develop their knowledge of how to remain safe in and around the water.
